Sincere Prayer – For Trying Times

sincere prayer

I hope you enjoy this sincere prayer when you’re going through a tough time. Sincerely praying keeps our hearts and arms open to receive what we need.

I was having a friendly conversation with a few friends about the art of conversation and we were talking about the qualities of being a good conversationalist. One of the words that popped into my mind was sincerity. Sincerity is a great quality to have when conversing because it keeps the conversation alive with genuine authenticity.

Masking our true selves isn’t as fun as sharing our heart’s true feelings. We all have a need to express, to be seen, and to be validated for who we are and what we are experiencing. The same principle of sincerity can apply to prayer, because what is prayer, if not a conversation with God/The Divine.

I notice that in times of stress my tendency is to contract, close my heart, and want to turn away from my faith. In times of crisis it is easy to feel abandoned, yet a lot of the time it is us who turn our back from the people and things that would support us.

So how do you stay open and sincere when you’re feeling let down? Here is a simple formula for a sincere prayer that you can use in times of crisis:

Sincere Prayer

Start with sincerely addressing the God of your understanding. Then from the sincerest place in your heart explain your situation, your fears, and your hopes. Affirm that even though you are going through a tough time, you choose to stay open and have faith that all will be well. Acknowledge the presence of God in your life at all times and thank God for always being there. Add anything else that feels right as long as it comes from your heart.

It might sound something like this:

Dear God,
Eventhough I am going through a really tough time right now,
and I have no idea how it will be resolved,
I just wanted to let you know that I am choosing to keep my heart open
because I know you are always with me, guiding, Loving, and protecting me.
I am choosing to be strong because your Love fortifies me and I know that Love is
stronger than fear.
I choose to have faith because I know that with faith and Love all things are possible.
I trust in you that the outcome of this situation will be for the highest good of all involved.
Thank you for your strength, your comfort, and Love.
I welcome your presence in my life.
I Love you.

My hope is that this sincere prayer will help you stay connected to spirit and your heart all the time, not just during times of calm and peace, but through all the many different seasons of your life. May you never feel alone and know just how loved and supported you really are!

  1. As we seek our Heavenly Father through fervent, sincere prayer and earnest, dedicated scripture study, our testimonies will become strong and deeply rooted. We will know of God’s love for us. We will understand that we do not ever walk alone. I promise you that you will one day stand aside and look at your difficult times, and you will realize that He was always there beside you. I know this to be true in the passing of my eternal companion—Frances Beverly Johnson Monson.
