Life is Precious

From a young age I learned about the fragile nature of the human experience. When I lost my mother at 17 it was a huge lesson for me that our lives are on borrowed time and there are no guarantees. A few years later, in my early twenties, I became ill with a chronic illness that impacted my life, goals, and dreams. Most kids in their late teens and early twenties still feel invincible, however, I felt acutely vulnerable and afraid. Doom seemed to be lurking just right around the corner.
Now that I am older and hopefully a bit wiser, I have realized that our awareness of the precious and delicate nature of life can actually be a gift, especially if we use it to motivate us to make the most of our time here. Below is what I have observed so far, and I am happy to share my thoughts with you today.
It’s funny the little things we obsess about such as money, losing weight, outward appearances, approval from others, perceived rejections . . .
Take a deep breath, let go of your worries, in the grand scheme of things they are of little importance. There is no reason to be afraid for most fears are illusions; even in death there is rebirth.
This life is precious and oh so brief. Hold your loved ones tightly and try to extract as much pleasure as you can from this short little life, for it will be over in an instant.
Let your love grow and expand to include everyone and everything. Embrace change. Embrace new experiences. Embrace life.
How would you spend your last days? What matters most to you? How would you be remembered? What did you contribute? Did you give your best? These are the real questions worth contemplating every day.
